8 Must Pack Items for Thailand Travel

The Essential Information & Must Pack Thailand Items

Thailand is one of my favorite places in the whole world for many reasons. Especially if you’re traveling on a budget, affordability is a huge draw. The food is amazing, the people are polite, and the experiences will blow you away. When you travel to Thailand, there are some things you’ll want to know—and some things you need to bring. Our list of 8 must pack items for Thailand Travel will help you with this!

Whether you’re interested in exploring the tropical beaches, luxurious sights, or remote wilderness, you’ll want to be prepared. And if you’re anything like me, you’ll want to be ready for all that and more.

Before we get into the eight must pack items for Thailand travel, let’s cover a basic packing strategy that can save you a lot of frustration: pack light. No matter what stage of your trip you’re on, you won’t want to be bogged down by heavy bags.

First of all, you won’t have to pay extra baggage fees on your flight. If you need to store items in a hostel or locker, you can easily shove all your belongings into a tight space. And if you need to bring your things with you when switching destinations, walking with your items will be a breeze.

Now, let’s dive into the eight must pack Thailand items!

Portable Battery Charger

It’s not as easy to find a convenient power outlet in Thailand as it is in some other countries. Especially if you plan to spend long days outside of your hostel or visit more remote areas of Thailand, you’ll need a powerful and reliable portable charger like the EAFU Power Bank.

This one in particular is a great model. The EAFU Power Bank features two charging ports, which means you can share with a friend and charge two devices at once. With 3A high-speed charging and 10,000mAh of stored energy, you can charge your phone fully between 2-4 times quickly.

This portable battery is also extremely compact, so you can fit it in your pocket or bag with ease, even if you want to bring two.

Bug Repellent Wipes

If you don’t bring bug repellent to Thailand, you will regret it. The green gardens and natural spaces attract more than just tourists, and insect repellent isn’t widely available in Thailand.

Bring this pack of Sawyer Picaridin Insect Repellent Wipes. It contains eight wipes in an easily portable form. Wipes are better than liquid sprays for a few reasons.

First, you won’t have to worry about bringing liquids on the plane. Sprays often contain toxic chemicals that harm local plant and wildlife when released into the air—and we all want to keep Thailand beautiful, right?

Finally, bug repellent wipes provide better coverage than spray repellents. You can cover every exposed inch with the certainty of protection.

Small Daypack

If you’ve packed light enough, bringing your carry-on bag (and all your belongings) wherever you go isn’t an outrageous idea. But you’ll soon realize it would have been better to pack a small daypack like this Roam Lightweight Backpack.

This pack folds up super small, so you can fit it inside your carry-on easily. It’s water-resistant and even though it’s small, it still holds a surprising amount of stuff. A small pack is perfect for bringing your hiking essentials or carrying around souvenirs before returning to your hotel or hostel.

Microfiber Towel

A towel is a super useful item to bring when traveling, especially if you want to swim or stay in a hostel where they aren’t provided—but standard towels take up an enormous amount of space.

The solution to this problem is this Rainleaf Microfiber Towel. It’s super compact, fast-drying, soft, and absorbent. This product was awesome for my Thailand trip, and I still love using it at home.

Universal Travel Adapter

Thailand has more outlet types than most places, and some even match US or European plugs—but you can’t be sure if your plugs will always match the outlets.

That’s why you need a travel adapter. To get more bang for your buck, try this Worldwide All in One Universal Travel Adapter that you can use almost anywhere in the world. It provides surge protection, two USB ports, and will work with any device.

Keep in mind that the voltage may be different than what you’re used to. Most outlets in Thailand supply 230V. Before you go, check if your products can withstand Thailand voltage.

Combination Lock

Most hostels provide a locker or some sort of lockable space for you to store your items in. What they don’t provide are locks.

You’ll also want a lock if you rent a motorbike while in Thailand. They’re a great way to get around, but you’ll want to chain and lock it up when parked to prevent theft.

This Disecu Digit Combination Lock is perfect for both uses. With an extra-long handle, four-digit combination, and waterproof design, it’s super easy to use.

Collapsible Water Bottle

Thailand has great opportunities for those who love to trek, hike, and camp. And if you’ll be venturing into the more remote parts of Thailand, a water bottle is essential.

Even if you’re planning on spending the day shopping or at the beach, a collapsible water bottle is a great item to stay hydrated without feeling weighed down.

The Nefeeko Collapsible Water Bottle is my favorite because it’s not bulky and can shrink down when empty. The hook makes it super convenient for hooking to a backpack, so you can use your pockets for your other must pack items.

Individually Wrapped Flushable Wipes

These can be lifesavers. If a place runs out of toilet paper (or maybe they never had any to begin with), you’ll need something to wipe with.

I prefer these Dude Flushable Wipes. They’re individually wrapped, so you don’t have to worry about cleanliness trip after trip to the restroom. These wipes are also flushable, so if there’s no bin, there’s no problem. You can send it down the drain with a clean conscience instead of being forced to take it with you or litter.

I also like to use these wipes to clean my hands, face, or body when I don’t have access to running water. They’re safe to use everywhere.
